A Royal Society of Arts Fellow, before joining The Voice newspaper on a rolling contract as Online Editor in 2016, Andrea Photiou was an Internet radio start-up specialist with ten years of experience in digital media including web and graphic design and build, DJ-ing and presenting.
The self-starting business development professional uses a proven blueprint to create branded radio stations on behalf of those who want to build their audiences and increase profit by integrating radio with their existing activities.
Beginning her career as a DJ, Andrea has played at venues including The Ministry of Sound. Andrea progressed to radio presenting and has been featured on BBC Three Counties Radio and Heart FM. In 2007 she founded PlayVybz Media Group, an award-winning licensed independent radio station and media training facility which featured ‘A list’ interviewees and well-known presenters before selling the business in 2012.
The PRINCE-qualified Project Manager was runner-up at the national 2008 Daily Mail Enterprising Young Brits contest, an enterprise ambassador for the Peter Jones Foundation and trainer for government careers service Connexions.
Andrea has been a guest presenter on BBC Three Counties radio, featured on Heart FM with Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton and was responsible for producing and presenting live weekly radio shows from 2007 until 2012 on her award-winning Internet radio station PlayVybz. Andrea has interviewed artists such as Jessie J, Fuse ODG, comedians from P. Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy stable and FDM to name a few.
Andrea has recorded voice overs, radio imaging and read-outs for clients which have ran on radio stations including London’s LBC.
You may have seen the Pinewood Studios-trained TV presenter being interviewed on OHTV (Sky channel 199) and hosting monthly live music segments from 2008 until 2012 in Brixton, London; introducing acts such as Jay-Z protege Kay M and MOBO-nominee Natalie Williams, compering annual events such as the Lambeth County Show alongside UK Top 10 recording artist Glamma Kid and The Voice finalist Floetic Lara; or DJ-ing live at venues including the Ministry of Sound.
Andrea has appeared as an extra, playing the part of a DJ in a music video with Talay Riley (featured in the official UK Top 20 chart three times, including once in the official UK Top 10) and Official Mixtape Award winner Scorcher.
In 2014 Andrea bought together emerging leaders from journalism, church management and PR to speak and lead workshops at an enterprise event in partnership with Google’s Campus, equipping under 25s with business and personal branding tools.
After being invited to apply for role of Online Editor at The Voice national newspaper, Andrea took up the post from 2016-17 on a rolling contract basis; before resigning with regret to pursue other endeavours.
